Camber is a beautiful, wide sandy beach near Rye which is famous for its spectacular dunes. In summer take the whole family to build sand castles and top up the tan, or in winter stroll along the beach and absorb the stunning views. Camber is also a popular spot for kite surfing and other watersports.
Bodiam Castle dates back to the 14th century and is one of Britain’s most picturesque and romantic castles, set in spectacular grounds. The castle’s original and very rare portcullis still hangs in the impressive gatehouse and enough of the interior ruins survive to give an impression of castle life. Take the steam train from Tenterden to the castle and arrive in style…
Explore Hastings’ fishing village with its colourful boats, traditional architecture and the Jerwood Gallery of modern art. Get there early to get the catch of the day, fresh off the boat! Then wander into Hastings Old Town with its warren of tiny, cobbled streets winding up the cliff. Packed with medieval cottages, antique shops and small cafes, it’s a great place to lose track of time.
Smugglers’ town of Rye
